*Registration for this event opens September 2nd

The North Carolina Aquarium will host its annual Homeschool Day on September 11! In addition to the one free visit during the school year for NC homeschool families, the Aquarium holds a special Homeschool Day event for all children in the immediate homeschool family. This includes children who are not school-age and two adults (additional adults will still have to pay general admission).

Specifically made for homeschool families, the event will include free scavenger hunts, live-animal programs, dive shows, crafts, and science experiments, and our classroom will be open all day.

Additional science activities during the day, including squid dissection and special behind-the-scenes tours, will require advance online registration before the event and are on a first-come, first-served basis. The link for extra activities will open on September 2.

Homeschool families will need to register online for the Homeschool Day event. Homeschool families can reserve their spot online for the event day by choosing their visit time online.

Registration is online only for the extra items (behind-the scenes-tours and squid dissection). Registration opens Sept. 2

HOMESCHOOL Series

Registration starts Sept. 15 online; the Series Starts Oct. 6

Are you a homeschool family looking for new and different places to learn? We’re offering a Homeschool Series for ages 6-11. The program allows children to learn in a classroom setting at the aquarium with hands-on activities and science experiments. The aquarium will use our space and the surrounding environment to foster an appreciation of our natural world through animal encounters and other activities. The series will also give children space to meet other homeschooled children.  Students will be able to explore a new animal or habitat each week. They will learn what different species need to survive in their natural habitats.

The series will take place once a week starting October 6. There will be two sessions each Wednesday. Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from  9:30 - 11:00 a.m. and again from 1:30 - 3 p.m. Each session is $6 per student. Online registration is required. Various supplies will be provided for each session.

The series is based on the nature and connection concepts: Nature is valuable and needs to be protected. All animals, environments, and people are connected and affected by one another. Each series day meets North Carolina academic standards.
